Description

ACUSHCREC indicates whether sample adults had used acupuncture because "a conventional medical professional suggested you try [it]" (2002) or because "it was recommended by a health care provider" (2007). Only sample adults who had seen a practitioner for acupuncture during the past 12 months (ACUYR) and, in 2002, had used acupuncture for a specific health problem or condition (ACUTREAT) were asked their reasons for using acupuncture.

Other reasons for using acupuncture that were recorded by the survey, and the associated IHIS variables, are:

• ACUSWELL (General wellness)

• ACUSMEDCOST (Medical treatments expensive)

• ACUSMEDFAIL (Medical treatment not help)

• ACUSRELREC (Family or friends recommended)
