BIOPMED
Got prescription meds for biofeedback condition

Description

For sample adults who had seen a practitioner for biofeedback during the past 12 months (BIOYR) and who had used biofeedback for a specific health problem (BIOTREAT), BIOPMED identifies those who had also received prescription medications for the condition for which they most used biofeedback (BIOTCONMOST).

For persons who had received such prescription medication (i.e., those with a "yes" response in BIOPMED), the complementary variable BIOPMEDTIM indicates whether they received such prescription medications before, at about the same time, or after trying biofeedback.

The survey question for BIOPMED also collected information about the use of other conventional medical treatments (or no conventional treatment) for the condition for which biofeedback was used the most, including:

  • Mental health counseling (BIOCOUN)
  • Over-the-counter medications (BIONPMED)
  • Physical therapy (BIOPT)

Interviewers asked, "Did you receive any of these conventional medical treatments for [condition for which biofeedback was used the most]?" and entered all treatments reported by the respondent.

For more information about the full range of variables related to biofeedback, including definitions, see BIOYR.
