COMPT
Got physical therapy for chiropractor condition

Description

For sample adults who had seen a practitioner for chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation during the past 12 months (COMYR) and who had used chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation for a specific health problem (COMTREAT), COMPT identifies those who had also received physical therapy for the condition for which they most used chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation (COMTCONMOST).

For persons who had received such physical therapy (i.e., those with a "yes" response in COMPT), the complementary variable COMPTTIM indicates whether they received such physical therapy before, at about the same time, or after trying chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation.

The survey question for COMPT also collected information about the use of other conventional medical treatments (or no conventional treatment) for the condition for which chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation was used the most, including:

  • Mental health counseling (COMCOUN)
  • Prescription medications (COMPMED)
  • Over-the-counter medications (COMNPMED)

Interviewers asked, "Did you receive any of these conventional medical treatments for [condition for which chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation was used the most]?" and entered all treatments reported by the respondent.

For more information about the full range of variables related to chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation, including definitions, see COMYR.
