EYEINJACT
Engage in acts that can cause eye injury

Description

For sample adults age 18+ and sample children age 6 to 17, EYEINJACT indicates whether the person participated in sports, hobbies, or other (non-work) activities that can cause eye injury. For sample adults, the question gave as examples "activities such as baseball, basketball, mowing the lawn, woodworking, or working with chemicals." For sample children, the question gave as examples "activities such as baseball, basketball, soccer and mowing the lawn."

Those with an affirmative response to EYEINJACT were asked the follow-up question, "When doing these activities, on average, do you/does sample child wear eye protection always, most of the time, some of the time, or none of the time?" (EYEPROTECT)

The 2002 Survey Description reported that questions about "participation in activities that can cause eye injury, eye protection when doing these activities" were part of the section of the survey that addresses Healthy People 2010 Objectives.
