This variable indicates if the respondent had extreme fatigue lasting more than 1 month in the past 12 months. The 1995 Field Representative's Manual defined fatigue as "Weariness that may include Chronic Fatigue Syndrome but usually will be less rigorous than a diagnoses of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It does not need to be diagnosed by a doctor." The term "extreme" was respondent defined.
In 2008, CHRFATIGEV identified sample adults who ever had chronic fatigue syndrome. In 2007, FATIGUEYR identified sample children who had fatigue or a lack of energy in the past 12 months.
