Description
FOKUSMEDFAIL indicates whether sample adults had used folk medicine or had seen a traditional healer because "conventional medical treatments would not help you" (2002) or "because medical treatments did not help" (2007). In 2002, sample adults who had used folk medicine (FOKYR) to treat a specific health problem or condition during the past year (FOKTREAT) were asked their reasons for using folk medicine. In 2007, sample adults who had seen a traditional healer during the past 12 months (FOKBOTANYR, FOKCURANYR, FOKESPIRYR, FOKNAMYR, FOKSHAMYR, FOKSOBADYR, or FOKYERBYR) were asked their reasons for doing so.
Other reasons for using folk medicine (in 2002) or for seeing a traditional healer (in 2007) that were recorded by the survey, and the associated IHIS variables, are:
