Description
For sample adults who had used homeopathic treatment during the past 12 months (HOMYR) and who had used homeopathic treatment for a specific health problem (HOMTREAT), HOMPT identifies those who had also received physical therapy for the condition for which they most used homeopathic treatment (HOMTCONMOST).
For persons who had received such physical therapy (i.e., those with a "yes" response in HOMPT), the complementary variable HOMPTTIM indicates whether they received such physical therapy before, at about the same time, or after trying homeopathic treatment.
The survey question for HOMPT also collected information about the use of other conventional medical treatments (or no conventional treatment) for the condition for which homeopathic treatment was used the most, including:
- Mental health counseling (HOMCOUN)
- Prescription medications (HOMPMED)
- Over-the-counter medications (HOMNPMED)
- Surgery (HOMSURG)
- No conventional treatment (HOMNOCONV)
Interviewers asked, "Did you receive any of these conventional medical treatments for [condition for which homeopathic treatment was used the most]?" and entered all treatments reported by the respondent.
For more information about the full range of variables related to homeopathic treatment, including definitions, see HOMYR.
