NATCOUN
Got counseling for naturopathy condition

Description

For sample adults who had seen a practitioner for naturopathy during the past 12 months (NATYR) and who had used naturopathy for a specific health problem (NATTREAT), NATCOUN identifies those who had also received counseling for the condition for which they most used naturopathy (NATTCONMOST).

For persons who had received such counseling (i.e., those with a "yes" response in NATCOUN), the complementary variable NATCOUNTIM indicates whether they received such mental health counseling before, at about the same time, or after trying naturopathy.

The survey question for NATCOUN also collected information about the use of other conventional medical treatments (or no conventional treatment) for the condition for which naturopathy was used the most, including:

  • Prescription medications (NATPMED)
  • Over-the-counter medications (NATNPMED)
  • Physical therapy (NATPT)

Interviewers asked, "Did you receive any of these conventional medical treatments for [condition for which naturopathy was used the most]?" and entered all treatments reported by the respondent.

For more information about the full range of variables related to naturopathy, including definitions, see NATYR.
