Description

NATUSMEDFAIL indicates whether sample adults had used naturopathy because "conventional medical treatments would not help you" (2002) or "because medical treatments did not help" (2007). Only sample adults who had seen a practitioner for naturopathy during the past 12 months (NATYR) and, in 2002, had used naturopathy for a specific health problem or condition (NATTREAT) were asked their reasons for using naturopathy.

Other reasons for using naturopathy that were recorded by the survey, and the associated IHIS variables, are:

• NATUSWELL (General wellness)

• NATUSHCREC (Health care provider recommended)

• NATUSMEDCOST (Medical treatment expensive)

• NATUSRELREC (Family or friends recommended)

Comparability
